Netflix Series, iZombie, is anything but dead
The Netflix Series, iZombie, is about a woman who suddenly becomes a zombie. We follow her through the difficult confrontations she may encounter due to being a zombie.
The show’s plot is about Olivia “Liv” Moore (actress Rose McIver) who was once a persevering doctor who, according to her close family and friends, was ready to take over the world.
Liv got scratched by a Zombie, which drastically changed not only her appearance, but her personality and ambitions. She becomes a mortician, who assists in discovering the reasons behind a death, whether it be by a natural cause, homicide, or suicide.
The personalities of many characters clash, and the dialogue heightens the intensity that some of the twists and turns bring. There were some moments were corny comments were exchanged, but not enough to take away from the scene.
Liv’s job is her gateway to attain her most desired and required food, brains.
Side effects that zombies experience from eating brains are flashbacks of their memories and acquiring specific character traits that the person had prior to their death.
These side effects help Liv to provide necessary information for the person’s death. This information is especially useful in homicide cases.
The gore within the show can sometimes be aggressive. This is definitely not a show for viewers who are sensitive to the sight of blood or internal organs, such as a brain. The show is a satisfying mash-up of police procedural, horror parody, comedy, and romance. The mashup of genres allow for an appropriate amount of twists and turns.
“The mix of light and dark is as necessary as the show’s balance of procedural elements and serialized storytelling, and I’m still not sure there’s a show out there right now that is better at balancing its many layers and styles as this one,” according to Kaitlin Thomas, tv.com staff writer.
The story is focused on the main character but the presentation and appearance of the show does not accurately depict the amusement that it is bound to give a viewer. The title “iZombie” seems very unoriginal. Adding a lowercase “I” in front of a title is a trend that is easily overused. This bandwagon doesn’t seem to work well with the overall effect of the story.
