Made in the A.M. shows 1D’s new, mature sound

After losing a bandmate, dealing with rumors of the group potentially breaking up, and wrapping up tours, British boy band One Direction is back and their fifth album, Made in the A.M does not fail to impress.

Made in the A.M. leaves no traces of One Direction’s once bubblegum pop feel from their debut album, Up All Night. Instead, the album combines folk, edgy rock, raw ballads, and retro influences to make up their new mature sound.

It sure doesn’t sound like a band that’s hanging it up, because all four [boys] are on a roll musically, chasing the rock vibe of Midnight Memories and Four,” Rob Sheffield, Rolling Stone columnist, wrote in his article for www.rollingstone.com.

Being the first band in the U.S. Billboard 200 history to top the charts at number one for their first four albums, it’s no surprise that the musical production and lyrics have improved each time, leading to Made in the A.M.’s top two spot on Billboard 200.

The 18-track record offers a variety of genres for all audiences to enjoy. From catchy 80s rock-inspired songs like “Never Enough” to mellow, acoustic love songs like “I Want to Write You a Song,”there is no doubt the band has grown vocally, even without former member, Zayn Malik.

With the mix of the band’s new sound, matured lyrics, and great vocals on each track, Made in the A.M. is refreshing and certainly does not disappoint.
