Inside Out, Pixar’s best animated film yet

The new Pixar and Walt Disney movie directed by Pete Docter, Inside Out, shows the idea of the importance of emotions from a different perspective that works well for all audiences.

The movie follows the story of Riley, an 11-year-old girl, voiced by Kaitlyn Dias, who has many conflicts that lead to her emotions taking control. Though it may seem like a confusing plot to a younger audience, Pixar and Disney do a great job, visually through flawless animation, and presenting main conflicts with ease for all ages to understand.

The film begins with Riley as a newborn baby, and her emotion, Joy, voiced by Amy Poehler, taking over the control board in Headquarters, located inside Riley’s mind. As Riley gets older, more emotions appear in human-like forms, including Sadness, Fear, Anger, and Disgust. ‘Islands’ surrounding the HQ display the important parts of Riley’s life that make up her personality.

Even in a jam-packed theater, the audience sat in silence, despite the occasional laugh at corny jokes from the characters. The visuals throughout the film were able to express each emotion accurately through facial and body features.

Along with the animation, the voice actors were also able to portray Riley’s emotions very well and according to Anthony O. Scott, NYT critic, the actors “belong to a television-comedy dream team.” From screaming with Anger to leaping with Joy, the voice actors adequately and precisely matched their tone to each character.

The soundtrack throughout the film reflects the character’s atmosphere accurately. Each track enhanced the scene and the emotion that was being focused on in that specific moment to guide the audience.

Inside Out is an amazing family-friendly movie that bursts with originality. The movie is able to establish and solve personal problems in a creative, humorous way that intrigues the audience. This philosophical flick is one of the best animated films recently released and is one you should definitely not miss!
