Battle of the Bands, a night that got the audience up on their feet

Bands fighting it out to win the first place title. The winner was Above Four.

Battle of the Bands was a night with many exciting moments all leading up to the winners who definitely deserved their first place title.

It was not a big surprise when Above Four was announced as the first place winners of this year’s battle of the bands. The band performed a mashup of covers called Seven Decades in Seven Minutes that involved 7 covers of popular bands to represent the seven passing decades . Not only did all of the songs appeal to the audience of many ages, the band constantly got the audience moving, shaking, and singing along to the classics. This was something no other band could truly replicate.

Above Four was great. They seemed completely comfortable on stage and you could tell they were having fun,” Kristie Houghton, senior, said. “They looked and sounded confident in what they were doing and it was obvious that they practiced a lot.”

The way Battle of the bands works is after each band plays their set, they were judged on how long and loudly the audience clapped. Also, there were judges in the audience who gave them points for how well the band played, how the audience reacted to the band, how many people and instruments are in the band.

Above Four was a great beginning to the night because it got everyone’s’ adrenaline pumping, but Beyond Gravity who got second place and Asgard in the Flames who got third, kept the crowd cheering as well

Asgard in the Flames was really good, but all that screaming can’t be good for you,” Anna Galuppo, sophomore, said. “The screaming and the singing sounded very good and being able to do that takes a lot of confidence.”

Asgard in the Flames had a unique sound coming from the genre screamo. The singer must have had a big set of lungs in order to have sang/screamed like he did.

Beyond Gravity, on the other hand, filled the stage up with a variety of instruments. There were many instruments from drums to two saxophones and a pianist, who danced in a black suit and shaded glasses to their last song, “Soul Man.”

Overall, Battle of the Bands was a night that did not disappoint.
