iPads help students become more efficient

District 95 has officially taken a bite out of the digital Apple. The academic requirements of today’s high school curriculums make embracing technology a necessity, not a luxury. Lake Zurich school district has responded to the needs of its students is a commendable step.

“I would say that [the iPad] opens up resources to students where it wouldn’t be available otherwise. It allows students and teachers to collaborate more easily,” Crystal Steker, director of technology, said.

Now students have an easier and more efficient way to access technology. Instead of teachers handing out paper assignments, they are now upgrading to Canvas. This app will benefit students by helping them keep everything in one place and not running the risk of forgetting or losing an assignment.

“I think iPads are a great idea because it helps teachers accomplish tasks that they wouldn’t normally be able to do with pen and paper,” Jake Stevens, junior iAgent, said.

One place students can go on their iPads that is a great digital resource is the Pearson eText website. Once on the website, students will have all the books from their classes at their fingertips. This digital connection is something students should embrace.

“I think iPads will help students because someone might not have a laptop at home, for example, so then they can go on their iPad to look up something for homework,” Stevens, said.

Technology has advanced positively throughout the centuries. The distribution of the iPads is an example of a beneficial improvement in our education.

“We have great teachers, here at Lake Zurich, who want to make sure to offer students the best possible resources.” Steker said. “I think the iPad becomes another tool in the teacher’s tool box.”
