Unbroken shows extraordinary triumph
Based off a true story, Unbroken is a mix between Christian Faith and World War II. Unbroken is a film that explains all the breathtaking obstacles that Louis Zamperini, an army man played by Jack O’Connell, has to encounter. This film, directed by Angelina Jolie, has an outstanding explanation of what every man had to go through when they were in the army captured by the Japanese Military.
This film follows the adventures of Zamperini, who passed away in July of 2014 at age 97. Zamperini’s older brother, Pete, was one of the best runners on the school track team. Pete wants Zamperini to join the track team so he stays out of trouble. Zamperini refuses but Pete pushes him. Later in Zamperini’s high school career, he becomes the fastest high school runner in the state. At the age of 19, Zamperini qualifies for the 1936 Berlin Olympics and becomes the Olympic co-champion of the 5000 meter dash. He finished in 8th place with a time of 14:46.8 seconds.
He starts off on a plane and after the plane crashes in the Pacific Ocean, him and two other men, Russell Allen “Phil”, played by Domhnall Gleeson, and Francis “Mac”, played by Finn Wittrock, are stranded on a yellow safety boat for over a month. One of the men dies and the two other are captured by the Japanese and brought to a prisoner of war camp.
Zamperini is taken to a new camp where the men are abused. Mutsuhiro Watanabe, played by Takamasa Ishihara, tests Zamperini by putting him through torture like holding a railroad tie above his head and physically abusing him.
This film shows the heartbreaking, intense, and extraordinary events that Zamperini had to achieve in order to survive the War.
