Dealing with ADD adds to the stress of high school life

Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) affects the way someone learns on a day to day basis.

For Emily Ruiz, senior, ADD affects her ability to pay attention in school. She was first diagnosed when she was in first grade.

“I would never sit still,” Ruiz said. “Teachers always emailed my mom about getting me medicated.”

There are different types of medication to help cope with ADD. Ruiz takes Ritalin, which helps her stay more focused and on task.

“[ADD] really affects my learning and my grades,” Ruiz said. “When I’m off my medication my grades are bad, but when I’m on it my grades are good. Everyone can always tell when I’m on my medication because I’m so serious and not tolerant of anyone and I only want to work.”
