You are sitting in an arena with thousands of other fans. Suddenly, everything goes dark. The crowd’s cheers become deafening. Multi-colored lights start to swirl around you as the energizing lyrics and guitar-laden sounds of Imagine Dragons fill the air. “It’s time to begin…”
That was the scene at the Allstate Arena last night at the Imagine Dragons concert.
“I remember the first time we played in Chicago. It must have been for about 150 people. We’ve been a band for about five years. This is absolutely incredible. Thanks for letting us do what we love. It’s great to see the passion in this arena,” Dan Reynolds, lead singer, said, addressing the crowd about the difference between this concert and their first stop in Chicago.
Yesterday’s concert at the Allstate Arena was the second to last stop on their Into the Night Tour. The concert started at 7pm, with opening acts by Nico Vega and The Naked and Famous. Imagine Dragons came out around 9pm with great energy. The first song was “Tiptoe,” and the crowd involvement and instrumentals were impressive. The vocals seemed a little choppy, but as the concert progressed, Reynolds warmed up and sounded just like he does on the radio.
The passion in the arena was evident when the band performed their hit, “It’s Time.” The crowd sang the whole song, by themselves for a part of the song. The band changed up some of their hit songs, starting slower than usual on “It’s Time” and taking instrumental breaks frequently. The guitarists and drummer had multiple solos. One especially memorable guitar solo lasted almost five minutes.
Another thing unique about this concert was the light show. There were different light patterns and colors for each song, which created certain moods depending on the song. Even one of the openers, The Naked and Famous, had an impressive light show. The Naked and Famous came out with a lot of energy, and they played loud, alt-rock music with an electronic flair. The crowd was not into their performance until the end of the set, though. The Imagine Dragons performance had a completely different energy because people knew the songs, the crowd on the floor was dancing, and all the people in the seats were standing.
The concert was very enjoyable because of Imagine Dragons’s musical talent, light show, and energized crowd. Any music fan who likes alternative, rock, or pop music should see Imagine Dragons to experience great live music.
