Summer 2013 is looking like it will be a good one. There will be festivals, concerts, and entertainment galore. Instead of sitting at home listening to music, go out and sing and dance with artists they love.
Festivals
If you are looking for fun music festivals, you do not have to look far. This summer, there are lots of opportunities to see lots of bands in one place. Aside from the obvious Lollapalooza (August 2-4) and Vans Warped Tour (July 20), there is Spring Awakening (June 14-16) and North Coast (August 30-September 1). Tickets for all of the events can be found on the festivals’ official websites.
Concerts
This summer, huge artists will be visiting Chicago on their tours. If you are interested in older music, check out The Rolling Stones (June 3), Bon Jovi (July 20), or Kid Rock (August 30).
Due to the growing popularity of boy bands, Chicago will see new and old faces. New Kids on the Block, 98 Degrees, and Boyz II Men are touring together and will be at the Allstate Arena on July 18. Big Time Rush is touring with Victoria Justice and will be at the First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre on August 4. The British boy band One Direction will also be at the First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre on July 13 and 14.
But for those who prefer alternative and pop-punk bands, there will also be much to look forward to. The Summer Fest 2013 Tour includes We the Kings, Breathe Carolina, T. Mills, and The Ready Set (in Chicago on August 10). Fun. will also be returning to Chicago with Delta Sprint (July 10). And for a good alternative rock concert, Depeche Mode will surely continue to impress (August 24).
Other
Of course, music is not the only form of entertainment. If you enjoy comedy, Jeff Dunham will not disappoint (September 6). Other comedy acts include Cash Levy (June 1), Whose Line? Improv Comedy (periodically throughout the summer), and Nerd Alert! The Game Show (June 14).
Chicago will also be experiencing Comic Con (August 8-11) 2013. This year, some of the special guests include Verne Troyer, best known for his role as Mini-Me in Austin Powers; John Heder from Napoleon Dynamite; and Denis O’Hare of True Blood. Comic Con is a great place to meet people of similar interests in movies, games, and books.
Additionally, for a truly culturally enriching experience, you can see Cirque Shanghai 2013 “Dragon’s Thunder” which will be in Chicago starting May 29 and continuing throughout the summer.
Tickets for all of these are available online on the artists’ official websites, Ticketmaster, and StubHub. Summer 2013 has the potential to be an unforgettable one, especially with the endless possibilities of entertainment.
