The road to becoming noticed by the movie and music industry has been changing drastically over the past decade, and becoming internet-oriented, and one social networking site that has had a huge part, Youtube.

            With the ability to put videos on the internet on a site dedicated to videos, some videos rise above the rest. For senior Joey Scavelli and his band, putting videos on Youtube is another way to get attention.

            “We’re pretty much trying to get as much exposure as we can,” Scavelli said. “It’s like advertising, and Youtube can definitely help because everyone’s using the internet now.”

            When a person’s lucky, self-advertisement online can help do more than help to gain a few more fans. Now there are bands posting videos who can reach their claim to fame before even playing a show.

            Maldroid, an electricpop band from California, debuted a video on Youtube and scheduled to play on “Good Morning America” Since only one member wrote the music, Maldriod was scheduled to play before they had ever played together live, and Justin Bieber only became a star by producer Scooter Braun clicking on his video by mistake on Youtube, according to http://sfgate.com. Once Braun found Bieber on Youtube, Braun got in contact with Usher, and Bieber was signed to Island Records. Now, three years later, Bieber is an international star.

            While Scavelli knows this can happen, he still finds the value of playing live shows.

            “There’s tons of people who get discovered on Youtube,” Scavelli said. “But it’s kind of a mixture; you need to play shows and advertise. Everyone uses the internet now, so it’s easy to post stuff and people will see it.”

            Posting videos on Youtube can not only lead to fame, but to fortune as well. Or at least a little extra cash. Meghan Carter, Youtube star from Ohio, started posting videos of herself doing household how to’s such as folding towels and tying bows, and she now receives advertising revenue from Youtube
