The 2013 Chicago Blackhawks have broken the record for longest game streak without a regulation loss to start the season. They have beaten the record which previously stood at 16 games. As of March 3, the Hawks have played in
As of February 28, the Hawks have played in a record 19 games without a regulation loss, which is something fans are very excited about.
“I’ve been a fan since the beginning of their Stanley Cup winning year,” Caty Grahf, senior, said, “but their streak this year has been insane and makes games that much more fun to watch.”
Other long-time fans are cautiously excited about the team’s overwhelming success.
“I have been a Blackhawks fan since they first started televising games in 2007, and I don’t want to jinx anything but this has been a great season so far,” Katy Conlon, junior, said. “It’s so much fun as a fan to see the domination and success that the Hawks are bringing this season.”
Domination is a good way to describe it. The previous record holders of the longest streak without a regulation loss to start the season was held by the 2006 Anaheim Ducks, who went on to win the Stanley Cup. If the previous record holders’ success is indication for the future, the Blackhawks should make it far in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
“I would love to see them make it to the Finals, because playoff hockey is even better than regular season hockey,” Conlon said.
The team’s success can be attributed to the team playing together as one, which can often be difficult in the NHL.
“I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that all four of their lines are playing well,” Grahf said. “Hopefully they can keep contributing and get them back to the Finals this year.”
The Blackhawks have reached the ultimate platform four times in franchise history, the latest in 2010. That team created something special for the fan base that can still be felt today.
“My family and I have been going to games since 2007,” Conlon said. “I even travelled to see the Hawks in Nashville last year which was a blast.”
The Blackhawks not only bring families closer together but, the bond between classmates and friends becomes stronger because of the team’s success.
“I feel like success definitely brings Blackhawks fans together,” Conlon said. “I love seeing people in the halls with their jerseys on and talking about the game the night before.”
Not only does the success bring people closer together, it also brings a spirit and benefits the fan base as a whole.
“I think they are definitely bringing people closer together,” Grahf said. “Hockey is starting to become more main stream and it’s a common interest for anyone.”
Not only does the team bring people together, it also gains new fans with every successful season.
“Their success is bringing in new fans, and I think that a lot of people will realize what a great sport hockey is and what a great team the Hawks are and they will continue to be fans,” Conlon said. “I love finding new people to talk to about games with and predicting what will happen in the future.”
