The girls’ varsity basketball team lost 55 to 44 at Mundelein High School on Saturday.
The team struggled to keep the ball in bounds and keep possession in the first quarter, giving Mundelein a 14 to 6 lead.
In the second quarter Sarah Stefaniu, senior, helped the Bears come back and Mundelein only had a one point lead, 29 to 28.
The Bears fought to win the ball on defense and Elly Daleske, sophomore, had three rebounds and steals third quarter.
Even though the Bears tried to tidy up on defense throughout the game, Mundelein still went for nothing but net and won 55 to 44.
Regardless of the loss, Sara Gazdacka, senior, thinks the Bears have taken a step towards becoming a better team.
“I think we played hard the whole game and we played more like a team than we ever have,” Gazdacka said. “Despite losing, we learned a lot and took a huge step forward. We are a young team, but we are willing to work through it. We will be a different team in January.”
