Despite the loss of many veteran players, the LZHS football team defeated Fremd in their first game Friday night with a final score of 35-3.
LZ’s defense pressured Fremd quarterback Sam Beutler all night leading to three interceptions. In all, LZ managed to create four turnovers, while only having one turnover themselves.
LZ’s running game proved to be strong again this year. Running back Connor Schrader ran the ball 13 times for a total of 142 yards. Fellow running back Mike Shield had 10 carries for 105 yards and two touchdowns.
Quarterback Steven Kuhn also contributed to the win, as he threw for 29 yards and ran in two touchdowns.
The football team’s dominant performance ignited the student section. Students were covered in blue and cheered all night in approval of their team’s winning performance.
