As February arrives at LZHS, Cupids will once again grace the halls on Valentine’s Day. Student council continues their tradition of Cupid Grams, looking to both offer students a fun way to show their friendship and love while raising funds for future events.
“Students are able to buy either a Crush soda, a Starry soda, or a bag of chocolate kisses [for three dollars from February 6-12]. They are able to buy those, write a note, and then send them to a different student at our school,” Kaitlyn Lee, senior student council executive, said.
Previous years have seen the sale and delivery of Fannie May chocolate bars, but this year, according to Lee, there will be a brand new lineup for students to choose from.
“This year, we wanted to change it up a bit to try something new. We were inspired by different schools as well, but also because there [was] a supply issue with the Fannie May company [while] trying to order them. So we thought it was a great opportunity to try something new,” Lee said.
But if that was not exciting enough already, the Cupid Grams event will be working with Bare Voices, if students should choose to send a small choir along with their delivery. This option will cost an additional five dollars.
“I’m so excited. We actually cut out our February concert so we’re able to do this, and we’re just singing so many cute Valentine’s Day songs,” Gabby Axelrood, junior Bare Voices singer, said. “We’re singing six songs, but I think what I’m most excited for is ‘You Belong With Me’ by Taylor Swift; It’s very different from what we usually [sing] in choir.”
Aside from ‘You Belong With Me,’ other song options will include ‘Brown Eyed Girl,’ ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love,’ ‘Kiss the Girl,’ ‘My Girl,’ and ‘Stand by Me.’ Axelrood adds that including Bare Voices will “help spread stuff about our music program and maybe inspire people to join next year,” as well as “make people excited for Valentine’s Day.”
With the novelty of this year’s offerings, Lee encourages students to participate, as it allows them to do something enjoyable for friends or significant others.
“Cupid Grams is a really fun activity,” Lee said. “I feel like during second semester, especially this time of year, there aren’t too many huge events, so we wanted to do something fun [for Valentine’s Day].”
