The Happiest Place on Earth: Homecoming goes Disney
Students walking into school Tuesday morning were treated with a surprise of Disney-themed decorations meeting them at almost every corner
The various different clubs at the high school met on Friday and Monday afternoon to cut, color, and create decorations matching the Disney theme set for homecoming this year.
“Disney is a fun theme because it’s so universal,” Veronica Lloyd, senior president of political science club, said. “It’s a theme that makes people want to go all out. [Clubs] like to represent our school with pride so a good theme makes that even easier.”
Most clubs tried to find a Disney movie that had some sort of connection to their extracurricular, such as Drama choosing High School Musical, and Ball Gives Life choosing Air Bud.
“Decorations are a fun way for clubs to be united with the common theme, but also show their personality with their choice of movie,” Lindsey Lang, senior editor of yearbook, said. “For example, yearbook chose Jungle Book because of the book element. Connections like that are how clubs show their unique personalities.”
Unity, Lang said, is a common theme with homecoming decorations. Bringing students together from all different grades and social groups, according to Lang, is what decorations is really about.
“It’s a way for people from all grades to get excited for one common goal,” Neha Praseed, junior member of speech team, said. “And having it right at the beginning of the year is a good way for new members of a club to really get to know everybody.”
Both Praseed and Lang worked together to lead their clubs in decorating and they are extremely proud of the outcome.
“I think the school looks great,” Praseed said. “It really builds up the excitement and hype for the entire week leading up to the dance.”
