A new big screen: student council Holds Movie Night Outdoors

Onlookers watch as Monsters Inc plays on the big screen. Student Council held a showing of the movie on the football field for the annual movie night.

A dark room, no socializing, and uncomfortable seats- this is the environment most are used to seeing a movie in. On Thursday night, however, Student Council put a spin on the traditional movie setting, taking things outdoors.

“Movie Night is a fun way to support your school while also having a good time,” Megan Lane, senior and attendee said. “I’ve gone the past two years and both have been such positive experiences for me.”

Student Council has been holding these movie nights for the past four years, started to raise money for the Homecoming dance held in the fall. According to Lane, students who attend enjoy the fun and social atmosphere of the event.

“At a movie theater, you have to be silent and it’s hard to be social in that environment,” Lane said. “The movie night is out in the fresh air and you can talk and socialize while watching the movie, which is nice.”

Student Council hopes to continue movie night for years to come, according to Grace Kinsey, senior member.

“This is a fundraiser that has been consistently pretty successful,” Kinsey said. “People just love the idea of being with each other and enjoying a great movie, like Monsters Inc., while also contributing to a good cause. I can see our school hosting this event for a long time.”
