Celebrating holiday cheer by watching christmas movies

A night full of holiday cheer, food, and Christmas movies awaits for kindergarteners to seniors.

The junior class board is putting on a movie night December 4 at 2pm in the field house. The board has invited the elementary schools as well as the high school this year in order to target a larger audience.

“We decided to do this [movie night] primarily because we’re gearing it not only towards the high school but also the elementary schools,” Nicole Marguerite, vice president of junior class board, said. “It’s a great way to not only get the high school involved in Charity Bash, but it helps the community to be involved as well.”

This would be a great idea for babysitter to take their kids to, according to Cara Obrachta, special education teacher. There will be fun activities like coloring for the younger kids to keep them occupied.

“This helps the high school students learn how charity is important and brings about a sense of giving to others who may need it,” Obrochta said. “I think that by including more schools, kids get a taste earlier on of what they get to look forward to when they get to the high school.”

Along with available concessions, movie goers will be asked to donated to Charity Bash.

“Concessions will be open but people will come in with the suggested donation of $5 and there will be a double feature of two movies being played,” Marguerite said. “It will be the Charlie Brown movie as well as The Year Without Santa Claus.”

This is not the first time the board has held a movie night. The first one, however, did not go as planned, as the movies were aimed at high schoolers, not elementary students, according to Marguerite.

“Last year did not go as well as we were hoping for,” Marguerite said. “I think the problem was that we aimed it at the wrong age group. We were targeting the movie night at the high schoolers and on a Sunday night, movies like these will probably be better for younger children.”

The class board is hopeful for better results this year and believe they will be able to raise a good amount of money for charity bash, Marguerite said

“I believe the class board decided to do this because it will span a variety of age ranges and not just include high school students,” Obrochta said. “The younger kids to see some of the positive aspects of the clubs at the high school. It kind of builds that sense of community.”
