Junior girls tackle first powderpuff game, blue team prevails
With skin covered in painted hand prints and hair tied back, fifty eight junior girls walked onto Mel Eide field last night ready to battle in their first powderpuff game: and neither team disappointed.
Both the blue and white teams were able to spark an offense and put up defensive stops while forcing turnovers to keep the game close. Samantha Hartman, running back, Kristin Brousseau, wide receiver, and Dani Pereira, running back, helped contribute to the blue team’s 33-24 victory. The blue team’s defense was led by Madison Obrochta, who led the team in tackles throughout the first half.
“The best part of the game was hearing my teammates and the crowd cheering. I was surprised at how many people were there,” Erin MacDonald, white team running back, said. “Even though my team didn’t do so well, we stayed positive and it was a lot of fun.”
Despite a year in between now and next years senior girl football matchup, Jacklyn Schlender, blue team quarterback, is already looking forward to her next game under the Wednesday night lights.
“Lake Zurich is the best,” Schlender said. “We have the most hype, crazy, and fun people around. I’m looking forward to playing with other people and change it up next year and ending with a win just like we started.”
