Color guard marching in parade in Paris

Color guard and band students are planning to say “au revoir” to LZHS, and “bonjour” to Paris.

Color guard and band students will be going to Paris the day after Christmas next school year to march in the New Year’s Eve parade. In Paris, the parade starts on January 1st 2017 and the route starts off at the Place de la Concorde, continues along one side of the Champs-Elysees, and returns on the other side ending back at the place de la concorde.

While there is still a lot of time before the trip, the members have started to prepare for their march in Paris by participating in other upcoming parades.

“We do different parades in preparation, like the Chicago Thanksgiving parade, and before that we do the Alpine Day parade and the Memorial Day parade,” Karenna Savage, freshman member, said. “Also, during lunch, we have been going out during the lunch hour on Mondays and Fridays for the past two weeks. We have been trying to get in the spirit of parade marching!”

The color guard and band plan to march in the parade together. The band will also do performances in public places, but for guard it is more difficult because of the routines and layout, so colorguard is more likely to get a lot of freetime, according to Savage.

While in the city, the group plans to do other touristy things like visit the Louvre, and Eiffel tower, and take a boat trip on the river, according to Savage.

“I have barely been out of the country and never been out of the continent, so taking an eight hour flight to Paris with color guard is something really new for me, and I’m really excited to march in the parade. There is this whole other fact of getting to go across the streets of Paris and seeing a whole different culture,” Savage said.
