Girl’s lacrosse game to support Salute, Inc.
The girls lacrosse team is hosting a game on May 13 to support Salute, Inc. and struggling military families, according to Adele Fredrickson, sophomore lacrosse player.
Last year, the team focused on raising awareness for leukemia, while this year the team raising awareness for the people in the military, according to Fredrickson.
“[Last year, the girls lacrosse team raised awareness] for a girl named Mikayla who had leukemia and she was friends with a couple of the girls on the varsity team so what they did was make [senior] night dedicated to her,” Fredrickson said.
Chuck Vozas, Special Ed Professional and JV Girl’s Lacrosse Coach, said he is happy the team is raising awareness for Salute, Inc. because he was in the military and knows how hard it is for veterans to get back to their normal lives after they come home from war. Salute, Inc. helps soldiers find jobs, pay rent, and get back on their feet.
“This is very important because there are so many soldiers out there fighting for our freedom while we are at school or working or doing our everyday activities” Vozas said. “There are always people on watch trying to keep us safe and it’s hard for some people to come back from getting a steady paycheck to getting little to no help, and Salute, Inc. provides to support so many soldiers need.”
Vozas hopes people will come to see the local boy scouts coming with the color guard, an LZ student singing the national anthem, people donating to Salute, Inc., a 50/50 raffle, and the girl’s lacrosse teams playing against Naperville in their camouflage jerseys with hot pink numbers.
