Concert choir practices for their upcoming concert on Wednesday, May 11.

Wednesday will be the last choir performance for seniors on the PAC stage. All choirs are preparing for their last concert of the year on Wednesday, May 11 starting at 7pm, along with sending seniors with one final send off.

“[The piece I’m most excited for is] the ‘May Night.’ It’s a piece by Brahms. It’s a heart-breaking love story and it sounds really good,” Kevin Gallagher, senior in concert choir, said. “It’s emotionally moving when you sing it, and the last line of the song is ‘In my eye is but one tear, it burns me, it burns upon my cheek.’  It’s really sad, and everyone’s leaving choir, so I think that it’s going to be the piece that moves everyone at the end.”

Gallagher is a three year choir senior and will continue with music at Miami University in Ohio next year. He says that his experiences in music throughout his years have shaped his vision of the future.

“It sounds cheesy, but [choir has] been a welcoming place. I’m going to miss all the people and all the friends that I have in choir. [My friends in choir] are the ones who made my high school experience great,” Gallagher said. “Music is something that makes me happy just as a person and I want to share that with other people. It’s an art that anyone can appreciate and really huge for a lot of people.”

Gallagher is not the only one who will miss his fellow choir members. All choirs will have many seniors graduating this year and will need to adjust to the size and variety of members, according to Jack Gelinas, junior in concert choir.

“[One of our weaknesses] might be confidence just because there’s a lot of [seniors]. A lot of people might be nervous to take on new roles and to fill in new positions of previous leaders,” Gelinas said. “But either way, I’m just excited to learn new music and keep on singing.”
