The nominations for Charity Bash 2016 will be discussed and decided on Wednesday May 4 and then announced at the Charity Bash Assembly next school year. The top nominations will be presented to the Student Council officers and officers from all of the high school clubs for them to cast their vote.

“We look for two things in a charity: it must primarily benefit children and have a personal connection to Lake Zurich High School and community,” Jesse Houghton, sophomore in Student Council, said.

Once they have this list of nominations, Student Council narrows it down to four, which are presented to representatives from every organization in the school for a final vote to pick one.

“Our goal this year, like every year, is to break our current record,” Houghton said. “We came extremely close two years ago, so we are extremely excited to see how we do next year.”

According to Merrick Howarth, Student Council officer, the school technically could repeat a charity, but she does not think that will happen for a long time because there are many causes to donate to and charity bash is only 16 years old, so there are a plethora of new charities to donate to.
