Students going to North Suburban Conference Art Festival
Seven LZHS art students will attend the North Suburban Conference Art Festival 2016 next Thursday at Vernon Hills High School.
Over 750 student artists from 14 high schools, attend the NSCAF, an annual conference but now ending this year, to display their work for others to see, which includes the public and other students. The seven LZHS students who are selected to go also take place in various workshops and listen to a speaker, who this year is Jason Seiler, a digital painter and illustrator.
Students for the event were picked based on recommendations from a certain art teacher.
“Only seven students get to go from the whole school and they should really feel honored,” Matthew Winkelman, art teacher and art club sponsor, said.
The teacher who recommended the students looked for artists who seemed well-developed in their art medium and had good craftsmanship in that medium, according to Winkelman.
“When I was picked, I felt really surprised,”Joseph Strojny, sophomore, said.”I got picked for drawing and I can not wait to see other different student art at the conference.”
The students picked for this trip will get to look at different mediums according to what they are interested in.
“There is always a variety of media present from painting and photography, to sculpture and much more. Some subclassifications include charcoal, acrylics, and watercolors. There are always all different types of art forms present at the conference,” Winkelman, said.
