Chicago Studies learn more about Chicago History
The Chicago Studies class is going on a field trip to the Chicago History Museum on February 2.
The new class, which is currently learning about Chicago’s history, will get to see historical paintings and more that students would not be able to experience otherwise.
“Right now, we’re doing mini projects going over the history so we can start talking about other topics, like culture diversity and social issues and why Chicago is the way is it,” Lindsey Deluga, junior, said. “We’re going because there are a lot of hands on learning activities and cool things we can see in person that we cannot in the classroom.”
Although the semester just started and it is a relatively new course, students are already excited for the rest of the year.
“I enjoy that everything we learn has to do with the city that is so close to where I live,” Hannah Wach, junior, said.
Learning about the city really does have its perks, according to Deluga. Students gets to learn things they never would have even thought about.
“I like learning about how they reversed the flow of the Chicago River because there was so much waste in there and it couldn’t go into Lake Michigan because it was contaminating the drinking water,” Deluga said. “I didn’t even know you could reverse the flow of a river.”
