Children’s Theater show, “Honk Jr.” to premier in February
A huge cast will be performing this year’s Children’s Theater.
Honk Jr, will be playing February 5 through 7. Marcel Graham, the technical director and Performing Arts Center coordinator, is the Children’s Theater director. The show should be a “very fun and high-energy performance that the whole family will enjoy,” according to Graham.
Auditions took place on November 17, but it is not too late to be involved with this musical. Set building occured during Winter Break and a student can join Tech Club, which is also run by Graham, by going to the Drama Club/Tech Club meetings that happen every first Tuesday of the month at 3:30pm in the PAC.
“‘Honk Jr.’ will be more of a traditional type of set, with large props and [items] among those lines.” Graham said. “[Honk Jr. is] a great story with an extraordinary large cast and a lot of different parts, which is perfect for our talent base that we have available.”
Elizabeth Ossmann, junior and theater veteran, who has been involved with the past two Children’s Theater musicals Peter Pan, and Shrek: the Musical, says being involved in Children’s Theater is a very positive experience.
“Honestly, [the best part is the] whole performance. Being able to perform that show and being able to see so many people come out and have fun,” Ossmann said. “I actually had a lot of fun learning the dance numbers [for Peter Pan]. Even though it took a long time and it was exhausting, it was incredibly fun to learn and to perform. It has always stuck out to me as one of the highlights [of Children’s Theater] and just the raw joy and fun I had doing it, has always stuck with me.”
Ossmann’s not alone in looking forward to the February performance.
“I think people should come see the show because it will be a very interesting experience,” Landon Finn, freshman, said. “It is very popular, a lot of people like it. It is a kid’s show, so it is appropriate for all ages and it’s a very fun show. There’s no reason not to like it!”
