LZHS hosts 4th annual District 95 Student Film Festival on February 9
District 95’s fourth annual student Film Festival, an event for students of all grade levels to share their film-making skills, will take place February 9 in the PAC.
The District 95 Educational Foundation-sponsored event encourages students and teachers to “submit films, documentaries, animations, comedy/drama and public service announcements,” however, only a select number of films will be presented to the festival’s audience, according to Nick Hervatin, 2014 District 95 Film Festival runner-up and sophomore.
“[2014] was the first time I had ever submitted something to a film festival and I wasn’t quite sure what to expect since I’ve never done it before,” Hervatin said. “It’s definitely really interesting just to go through the whole process of making the film, submitting it, and then having people other than you and your friends watch it. It was cool how things worked out.”
Students are able to submit required forms and their own films from now until January 22, before the Film Festival takes place in February. Students, first-time film-makers or experts, are welcome and those considering submitting their films to the Film Festival should “just go for it.”
“Don’t worry about what other people are going to think of your film. If it’s something that you think is good and that you enjoyed making, just submit it and see how things turn out because everybody has their unique vision in how they film,” Hervatin said. “Just have fun with it and try not to overthink it.”
