Students and faculty rocked and rolled for Charity Bash

Student acts and faculty rocked and rolled to raise money for LZ’s Charity Bash at Student Council’s annual Talent Show.

The 18 student acts, ranged from musical covers of both modern and old hits to dance routines, original songs, a magic act, and even a few acapella groups as well.

“There was an array of talent in the talent show. It was wonderful,” Cade Ryan, sophomore and audience member, said. “There might have been a lot of musical performances, but that’s how a lot of people express themselves and music is a huge part of life, so I’m glad that they were able to showcase their talents in music.”

The award for best performance out of all of these musical talents was won by Amanda Fiddler, who played piano and sang one of her original songs. The award for most creative performance went to Francesca Castro, who played the bass, guitar, sang, and encouraged the audience to sing along to a recent pop hit, The Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face.”

“I really liked [Castro’s act] because it really allowed the audience to participate and get more involved in the act, but the act was still her own,” Ryan said. “You have to have your main act and then you have to have other elements to make it more enjoyable for the people watching.”

Best overall performance went to seniors Mara Nasui and Kevin Gallagher, who together, performed “Like I’m Gonna Lose You” by Meghan Trainor and John Legend.

Aside from getting to see the many talents of a few of their peers, attendants also enjoyed the musical stylings of Iron Rose, a  lip sync band that featured social studies teachers Michael Kaufman, Peter Ternes, George McNalis, and Christopher Bennett, and science teacher Jeff Kettinger.

“I’m a big fan of classic rock, so I really liked Iron Rose,” Weronika Markowska, freshman, said. “I thought they were very funny and I really liked the music they chose.”

Overall, the audience enjoyed the many talents that were showcased during the show, and aside from a few instances of minor technical difficulties that slowed down the procession of the show, Ryan and Markowska agreed that they would both like to attend again next year.

“I think it was a really good place to get together with a lot of friends,” Markowska said.”There was a lot of talent in there, and it was really fun to watch.”
