Students roam the halls with a new T-shirt representing leadership
Class board and Student Council Sponsors want to acknowledge some of the student leadership that takes place within LZHS by making leaders more visible.
“We have a ton of great leadership in the building that needs to continue to be cultivated. We have clubs that are working internally to make LZHS a better place but are not always working together. We want it to be visible how many people work together to make LZHS great, not just a select few,” Suzanne Santiago, science teacher and Junior Class Board sponsor, said.
To make the combined efforts of student leaders stand out, the faculty sponsors created T-shirts so people can recognize how many students are working toward improving LZHS.
The faculty sponsors of Class Board, Student Council and National Honor Society discussed how the shirt could contribute to helping unite the school.
“We all agreed that this would be a good message to send, and that we should see if this is embraced by the students. We are trying to tie the clubs together more, when possible this year,” Santiago said.
The blue shirt has “Lake Zurich Leadership” and a bear claw grabbing the LZ logo on the front. On the back of the shirt, there is a definition that represents the quality of a Lake Zurich leader.
Each student leader had the option to choose from several definitions that represent a good leader, according to Santiago. Words such as citizenship, kindness, and caring were some of the defined words on the back of the shirt.
“[The definition on the back of each shirt] show that the students wearing these shirts realize what it takes to call others to action and make our school a better place, ” Emma Wenckowski, junior and Student Council member, said.
The recognized students appreciate that they were acknowledged. However, some students felt the T-shirt should have been provided to more students.
“I like [the t-shirts] because they promote the student leaders in our school, but I think they should have been offered to more people like officers of clubs or PE and F.A.M.E. leaders,” Kalynn Rhew, junior and secretary of Student Council, said.
The Leadership T-shirt is one of many ways that Class Board, Student Council, and National Honor Society sponsors hope to bring students of LZHS together.
