Open House changes to Curriculum Night, to align with other schools
Curriculum Night is a school event that in previous years was called Open House. The changes occurred because administrators felt the new name more accurately represents the event.
“The open house, is like, ‘Welcome. Come on in, and get to know us,’” Jodi Wirt, assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction, said. “Curriculum Night communicates that we want our parents to understand what our courses are providing to students, the kind of work we are expecting students to do during that course, and how students are going to be supported.”
District administration believes the new name provides more information, Wirt said. However, some students don’t believe the change was necessary.
“[The change of the name] seems a little unnecessary because I’m assuming the process will be like other years. I see no reason to change it now,” Aubrey Anderson, sophomore, said.
According to Wirt, since some elementary schools had already called this school event Curriculum Night, the high school is merely aligning to what other schools do, in order to communicate their efforts in promoting student achievement.
