Charity Bash chosen for 2015-2016 school year
Even though summer break seems like days away, believe or not, Thanksgiving, the holiday season, and most importantly, Charity Bash is only five months away! The Charity for the 2015 – 2016 school year will be the Alexander Leigh Center for Autism.
“The officers of Student Council met together with our sponsors and looked over the nominations that students and teachers submitted,” Kalynn Rhew, sophomore Student Council secretary said. “We decided which charities fitted Charity Bash best based on which connected most to our district.”
Other charities that were nominated by LZHS students and faculty included National Eating Disorder Association, Partners for Progress, and March of Dimes. Student Council officers each picked a charity and prepared a speech for other club officers.
“We met with representatives of each club and we told them about each charity we believed would be a good fit and then had them all vote,” Rhew said.
Charity Bash has been moved back to December, according to Student Council. ALCA is a non profit, therapeutic school for autistic kids ages 3 to 17. Since it is located in Crystal Lake and is a smaller organization, Student Council hopes to visit frequently and to make a big difference with Charity Bash, according to Christopher Bennett, Student Council sponsor.
