SNAP to participate in Special Olympics
Who needs to wait until summer to watch the Olympic Games when Special Olympics is taking place this weekend in the gym?
“The Special Olympics that is being held here at LZHS is a track and field event,” said Jenna Cataldi, special education and Life Skills teacher. “The students will compete in different events such as softball throw, 100 meter dash, shot put, and long jump.”
Students who participate in the Special Needs Athletic Program (SNAP) are competing in the events this Sunday, according to Cataldi.
“The Special Olympics is a sports organization that allows children and adults to train and compete year round in different kinds of athletic events,” Cataldi said.
Girls’ track and the National Honor Society are two of the clubs/sports volunteering at Special Olympics, although everyone is welcome to help out.
“Anyone can volunteer, it is not limited to clubs and sports. We take individuals or students that would like to form their own group,” Cataldi said. “ If you would like to volunteer, you need to contact Barb Antanoff in room B123.”
