Something sweet: band students sell cheesecake and coffee

IMG_3443 (Medium)Band members know how to sell a sweet deal. They have been and will continue selling Gourmet’s Delight’s cheesecake and I Have a Bean’s coffee until April 27.

With each item sold, a portion of the purchase goes into the LZHS band student’s account, according to Allie Mitchell, sophomore band member.

“Every individual band member has his or her own account,” Mitchell said. “All the funds we raise, whether it is from selling poinsettias in the winter or selling cheesecake and coffee now, goes towards our personal account and can help pay for trips. Last year, the band went to Spain. During spring break this year, jazz band went to New Orleans. During my senior year, the band will probably have another trip, so all the funds I raise now will help pay the costs of trips I want to go on in the future.”

All the band fundraising opportunities are worth the time and effort because they help individuals and the whole band, according to Laura Santi, senior band cabinet member.

“There is not a lot of pressure because you are selling to benefit yourself. So there is motivation to sell if you want to help cut the costs of future trips you plan on going on,” Santi said. “Also, if you have money left in your account by senior year, you can transfer the funds to a sibling or to the band in general. Overall, it is successful because you can set your own personal goals and those funds can take the weight off of your parents.”

Along with contributing to the band’s funds, Mitchell said the cheesecakes are worth the cost.

“The cheesecakes are only fifteen dollars and there different flavors such as traditional, chocolate chip, cookies and creme, key lime, turtle, strawberry, raspberry, and a variety cheesecake that includes with seven different flavors,” Mitchell said. “Overall, the cheesecakes taste good and go towards a good cause, which is helping a program in our school.”
