Anything Goes brings humor for all ages

Anything Goes when it comes to the spring musical, which will hit the stage on April 23 at 7pm.

The musical follows the struggle of a Wall Street stockbroker named Billy who falls in love with a girl named Hope and tries to get her to fall in love with him. Meanwhile, another character falls in love with Hope’s fiance. The story, therefore, is a romantic comedy that the drama department thinks is the perfect fit for all ages.

“Overall it’s a story about love filled with classic music, humor, and romance. My favorite part is Evelyn’s song where he reveals a hilarious secret of his family because the choreography is hilarious,” Zack Keller, junior who plays Billy, said.

The drama department began working on the musical in early February when they released their cast list, according to Sheri Conover, advertising manager of the show. Since then, the cast has been hard at work in rehearsals.

“We  have been practicing for about three months after school. We run through dances, practice songs, and do scene work. Now we’re putting together the final pieces before the show goes live next week,”  Keller said.

Despite the fact Anything Goes premiered in 1934, Keller believes it’s still relatable to audiences and is definitely worth its while.

“We felt Anything Goes was the perfect opportunity to celebrate the ten year anniversary of the Lake Zurich Performing Arts Center. Anything Goes was the first production in the PAC, the crown jewel of our community,” the cast said in their press release.

Along with the traditional tie, the musical was chosen because of the interesting wardrobe and setting options the cast was offering along with the large number of songs and dances, according to Conover. “It’s a really good deal for students to come, and it’s definitely a night out [students] would enjoy a lot.”

Tickets are for sale both at the door and ahead of time. Prices are $10 for students and seniors and $12 for adults.
