VIP hosts annual art show, ten students featured
Ten students will be representing LZHS in a photography show sponsored by VIP Photography on Saturday, March 21 in Wheeling. The show runs from 2pm to 5pm, with winners announced at 4pm. Submissions vary widely based on the style and type of photography.
“[My submission] is a picture of my neighbor in a bathtub filled with cotton,” Lauren Shon, sophomore, said. “It sounds weird when you say it. Actually two of my pictures are entered, but they’re the same concept.”
Anyone could submit pictures, according to Shon, who is currently in Digital Photo Studio, and art teachers selected 10 to 15 different photographs to enter. Then VIP panelists selected the finalists, according to Theresa Baumann, senior.
“I’m in AP Art and my main media is Digital Photography,” Baumann said. “My picture was of a fan with rust on it. Rust is the physical representation of my theme, which is man versus nature, which is pretty cool.”
With students from twelve schools in the surrounding area submitting photos for judging, the competition will be tough, but the variety of photographs will benefit all of the artists.
“I’m looking forward to seeing other peoples’ art, mostly for inspiration,” Shon said.
LZHS art teachers entered photos into the show from the following students: Elisa Krause, freshman; Nicole Schemansky, sophomore; Chelsea Han, senior; Emi Kopke, senior; Casey McGinnis, senior; Shannon McCabe, junior; Kasia Konsor, senior; Theresa Baumann, senior; Kailee Remez, sophomore; and Lauren Shon, sophomore. All students who submitted pictures are up for prizes, according to Mike Bale, art teacher. This sixth annual show is strictly for photography, unlike the District 95 Art Show, which was open to all types of artwork.
