P.E. Leadership students to host movie night
P.E. Leadership students are running a movie night to benefit the Special Needs Athletic Program (S.N.A.P.) on Tuesday, March 10.
P.E. Leaders will be showing the movie Maze Runner in the P.A.C. at 7pm. The event is to raise funds and awareness for S.N.A.P. The students will also be selling concessions, hosting a 50/50 raffle, and have speakers to talk about the organization. There is no cost for admission, but donations will be accepted.
“Our P.E. leadership group service project was to create an event to benefit the community that we all had a personal connection to,” Katie McGuckin, junior, said.
McGuckin has teamed up with four other leaders to make this event possible. Each one is an athlete who wants to give the special needs students the same athletic opportunities they have had.
“We chose [S.N.A.P] because we all know the [special education students] from school, and we’ve all participated in Special Olympics,” Dan Marshalla, junior, said. “It’s a really good experience for both the people who volunteer and the kids who do it, we love to see them have fun.”
Along with Marshalla and McGuckin, three other juniors are helping to put on this night: Victoria Ivanov, Taylor Lores, and Chris Yun.
The Maze Runner was selected by students who donated in order to cast a vote for the movie night choice. Last week’s voting raised $98, which will benefit their fundraiser.
The Maze Runner is rated PG-13 and has a run-time of 113 minutes.
