Annual Jazz by the Lake performance for parents
A Friday night “all you can eat” buffet dinner and jazz music in the background. An event created to encourage meeting other people and socialize with friends and family.
This past Friday night, February 6, Jazz by the Lake took place at Makray Golf Club in Barrington. Students in Honors Jazz Ensemble performed music they have been practicing for multiple events and now they performed for their family and friends.
The student performed many jazz pieces including a piece called All That Jazz, that was sung by Francesca Castro, sophomore guitarist in Jazz Ensembles Honors. Many of the students were given the opportunity to do a solo during a piece.
“I love seeing how much Tommy [Greco, senior] enjoys performing with the jazz group and his friends,” Jeanette Greco, career mentor and mother of Tommy, said.
Tommy Greco performed this year for his third and final time in his high school career. Greco attended the performance for her final time with her husband Gary Greco.
“It’s very sentimental and melancholy to see Tommy’s last performance here [at Jazz by the Lake],” Jeanette Greco said.
As a side quartet, Tommy, Grant Wallace, baritone saxophonist, Logan Ejupi, tenor saxophonist, and Donald [Donny] Gross, soprano saxophonist, performed a piece called “The Mood” in the group that they have prepared for Solo and Ensemble.
The money that is raised at this event goes to Band Boosters of Lake Zurich according to Bear Boosters of Lake Zurich.
