Students participate in first annual District 95 Art Festival

Calling artists and art-lovers alike! Students from District 95 will participate in the first District Art Festival this Wednesday.

Students from 1st through 12th grades have the opportunity to showcase their artwork for the festival, which will be held in the LZHS cafeteria from 6pm to 8pm on Wednesday.

“I hope students gain more exposure to the visual arts department in the district so that we can celebrate visual arts,” Kristen LaJeunesse, art teacher who help created the festival, said. “We need to showcase ourselves and the work we pride ourselves in.”

As well as showcasing more than 200 pieces of art, the LZHS art rooms will also be open for middle school students who plan to pursue art, as well as their parents to tour, according to LaJeunesse.

“It’s creative exposure for all of our students. We value that in first graders and juniors in high school,” LaJeunesse said. “We want to create excitement, the buzz, for them to join us in the future.”

Art Club and National Honor Society are helping run the event, as well as the nine art teachers in the district.

“Since it’s the first year, the art teachers have a lot to handle and figure out while making sure things run smoothly,” Meagan Bens, senior who is chairing the event for NHS, said. “NHS will help with set up, take down, and run some of the activities that will be held.  The festival is an awesome opportunity to recognize the variety of talent within the community, from [first grade] to high school. Since I’m an art student, I would love to help out with the art activities. It’s something I love to do and at the same time I get to help and share my love for art with others.”
