Hawthorn Woods hosts 5K and 1-mile Fun Run
This upcoming Sunday, October 5, a 5K run and 1-mile Fun Run will be held at Heritage Oaks Park and Hawthorn Woods Country Club Community.
The run is sponsored by the District 95 Educational Foundation to raise money for educational services. Registration can be filled out online or at the event.
“The purpose of the event is to promote wellness and community at the beginning of each school year. Proceeds from the race support such Foundation projects as Creative Spaces, eLibrary, teacher innovation grants, etc,” Nancy Coleman, executive director, said.
Participants are required to pay a fee and are required to read and sign a waiver. The waiver will be signed upon registration for the event. The 5K run is $30 and the Fun Run is $15.
A 5K run is 3.1 miles and the Fun Run will be one mile. Runners of all ages are welcome.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the race begins at 9 a.m. Refreshments and snacks will be served to participants upon finishing either race.
Awards will be presented to participants based upon finishing times, in both the male and female categories. Awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will be handed out. Results of the race will be posted on the foundation’s website.
