On September 5, the field house parking lot will be filled with students’ laughter and the smell of teachers grilling burgers and hot dogs. The semi-annual Bears BBQ will be held during all lunch hours this Friday.

“It’s a good way to start the year and a good way to end the year, with something out of the ordinary,” Ryan Rubenstein, assistant principal for facilities and student resources, said. “Get the teachers out of the classroom, cooking for [the students] and then get the kids out of the cafeteria and get them outside and enjoying the nice weather.”

The first Bears BBQ is the second week of school and the first friday, having given students a bit of time to acclimate. The second will be May 22, a couple weeks before school is over.

The BBQ is not only beneficial and enjoyable to students, but also to teachers.

“It gives the teachers an opportunity to see the people outside of their department if they get a chance,” Rubenstein said, “and be outside instead of in the cafeteria.”
