The AP Environmental Science classes visited the Field Museum on Monday, May 12, to visit exhibits pertaining to their coursework.
The students were required to visit at least two exhibits pertaining to what they had learned in class this year: fracking, a process which harvests natural gas from the ground, and another about the conservation of life.
“We took selfies at each exhibit so they knew we visited each,” Shannon Jessen, senior and AP Environmental Science student, said. “[My group] visited a few more exhibits, such as ‘Around the World’ and ‘Egypt.’ The Egypt exhibit was probably the coolest one because it was the most interactive and it felt like you were actually in the pyramid. They also had all these real mummies.”
After lunch at the museum’s Café-Bistro, students went on a private tour of the Field Museum’s lab and taxidermy birds.
“[The collection] was an example of how many species [of birds] have gone extinct over the years,” Jessen said. “We really focused this year on loss of biodiversity.”
