National Honor Society will be holding a school supply and book drive during all lunches tomorrow, March 14. Students also will be able to donate money during their English classes.
Students are able to turn in unopened school supplies or gently used books. In return for the donation, anyone who contributes will receive a raffle ticket and will be able to win gift cards, according to senior Jon Gaide, NHS school supply and book drive chairman.
“Other than donating school supplies or books, people can also donate money in English classes on Friday, and whichever class collects the most money will be awarded a pizza or doughnut party,” Gaide said.
After collecting the books on Friday, the school supplies will go to Arthur A. Libby Elementary school, and the books will go to Cooper Elementary Dual Language Academy, both in the Chicago Public School system.
“NHS undertakes this event every year,” Gaide said. “In years past, hundreds of books and countless school supplies have been donated to the chosen schools. Also, the monetary donations we give to them go towards school activities such as plays and performances.”
