The New Year brings new laws. Many of these new laws apply not only to adults, but also high school students.
Eligible seventeen year olds can now vote in the November general election’s primaries, as long as they will be 18 by the November elections. They must be registered by February 18 to vote in the March 18 primaries, according to Huffington Post’s website.
Tanning beds are now illegal for anyone under 18, according to Huffington Post’s NBC Chicago’s website. Spray tans are still legal, but anything with ultraviolet radiation is illegal for minors as of January 1, regardless of parental consent.
Even though talking on a cell phone while driving has been illegal for minors, now anyone 18 and older will also be fined up to $75 for not using a Bluetooth or hands-free while driving.
The speed limit on rural highways has also been increased from 65 to 70 mph, but most of the Chicago area has not changed, according to Huffington Post’s website.
