The University of Illinois Wind Symphony will visit LZHS to perform for students and adults in the PAC at 7:30pm on December 7.
2012 graduate Jared Cooney will return to LZHS as a member of the band playing the clarinet.
“I’m looking forward to the concert, especially seeing Jared play. He’s a very talented musician,” Keith Sustich, senior and band student, said.
The Wind Symphony is Illinois’ premier ensemble and “has the responsibility to lead the band profession in performance standards as well as creatively developing the future in training wind players in a variety of conducted ensemble settings,” according to their website.
The Symphony, comprised of about 50 to 60 students, is led by Robert Rumbelow, head band director at U of I. The musicians will play songs like Percy Grainger’s “Lincolnshire Posy” and Aaron Copland’s “A Lincoln Portrait,” according to the LZHS website.
“We listened to all the music the band is going to play because [band director Josh] Thompson says it’s easier to listen to music the second time to anticipate what it’s like,” Sustich said.
The concert, run by LZHS band director Josh Thompson, is open to the public with a charge of $5 for adults and $1 for students.
