LZHS recognized athletes and academic teams between performances at today’s spring assembly.
Students applauded and recognized athletes from basketball, volleyball, and cross country, among other sports, as well as those who competed in math and science competitions. The seven retiring teachers were also called down to receive recognition for their years of teaching.
The assembly featured a performance from the state-winning Color Guard and a video of the Poms’ state-winning routine. The Wind Ensemble played, and Megan Deppen, senior, sang a song from the upcoming spring musical, The Sound of Music.
The winners of various talent competitions also performed. Talent show winner Nick Plewtong, junior, played his electric violin to Train’s “Hey Soul Sister,” and Mr. LZ Kyle Russ, senior, reprised his dance with Candice Glicken, English teacher.
Students began the assembly by cheering for LZHS’s Special Olympics athletes. The event itself will be held on May 6.
The senior class attempted to throw hundreds of plastic balls onto the floor of the Field House as a senior prank, but the administrators collected most of the balls before the assembly began. Some students threw the remaining balls as the juniors and seniors left the assembly.
