The LZHS Habitat for Humanity club raised money all this week to support Act Speak Build week. Habitat for Humanity has an international week every year to raise money for the club. The club that helps to build houses for those who would otherwise not have one.
Those who receive these houses help build them, which is called sweat equity. The mortgages on houses after they are built are used to build more houses for other families. The Lake Zurich chapter helped raise money by having a table at lunch for kids to come up and play games during their lunch periods. The “Big Wheel of Fun” was a spin wheel with different prizes on it, resembling the wheel on Wheel of Fortune.
Joe May, who sponsors the Lake Zurich Habitat for Humanity, held an auction for his English classes this week, with assistance from Dave Voss, history teacher. Items included a dancing turkey, a dancing gorilla, a plastic baseball, and a collection of Star Wars pens from various cheerio boxes, collected by Voss’s mother, along with other various items.
Students were allowed to bid on items during classes, and items have been valued at over $25. Students even bid on the folder used to make bids, all in support of Habitat for Humanity. May and Voss also hold an auction for Charity Bash every year.
