The LZHS National Honor Society (NHS) volunteered at a benefit to raise money for three-year-old Kendall Quinn, granddaughter of Alpine Chapel’s pastor Ronn Read, to help provide her with the necessary treatments for her mitochondrial disease.
The benefit took place Friday night, February 10, at the Chapel, and donations went towards supporting the Quinn family’s attempts to raise the necessary funds for her treatments. The night included a live band, dinner, and trivia games for those attending.
Patrick Juras, senior NHS member, chaired the event and was in charge of finding volunteers to help run the activities.
“I thought [the event would] be an excellent opportunity to help a little girl who’s been suffering for her whole life for something so far out of her control,” Juras said.
Kendall’s condition has been a struggle for her family since her birth as she is unable to digest nutrition properly due to problems with her mitochondria. She was also diagnosed with various lung and heart problems, according to the Hope for Kendall website.
This was the second annual benefit for the Quinn family hosted at the Chapel. Last year’s benefit raised enough money to provide a specially designed bed for Kendall’s various IVs and cords she has to wear when she sleeps. Money from this year’s benefit will go towards further care and help for Kendall’s condition and her ability to function in her day-to-day life.
