The Student Leadership Team (SLT) began Charity Bash with a bang, raising $2363.12 on its annual $2000 Day.
$2000 Day is an effort to get each student in the school to donate at least a dollar during their English classes in order to raise over $2000. SLT typically raises more.
“We always get more than $2000 because people are generous,” Cathryne Spear, senior and SLT member, said. “Last year we raised around $2,500.”
SLT collects the money during English classes, as LZHS students are required to take English all four years of high school.
“We sign up for our free periods and study halls, and we go to English classes to collect the money,” Spear said. “Then we count it, which takes a while.”
The English class that donates the most money per student wins a prize. Morning classes win doughnuts, and afternoon classes win pizza. Candi Glicken’s sixth period English class won, raising over $128.
