Frosh Friday: ready to swim with the big fish

Freshman Hailey Pesch competes in a swim meet. She is passionate about the sport and hopes to keep with it in high school

Name: Hailey Pesch
Middle School: Middle School North

Q: What do you think is the biggest difference between middle school and high school?
A: I think just the people in it. There’s really no more little kids, you’re with the older kids and there’s always that fear that they’re going to do something to you or make fun of you. We used to be the biggest kids in middle school and now we’re starting back at the bottom. I’m a little scared about that, but I’m more excited than nervous.

Q: What is your goal for your first year of high school and what lessons did you learn in middle school that will help you achieve that goal?
A: Probably getting good grades and really getting involved. I think learning how to manage my time and how important it is to do that, also knowing what my priorities are and how to put those first.

Q: What are you most looking forward to most in High School?
A: Probably meeting new people and the taking new classes that I can choose. I want to take some cooking classes, and more writing classes since that’s what I’m interested in.

Q: What is your biggest fear in transitioning to high school?
A: Mostly feeling like I’m going to get lost, or not being able to handle the amount of homework that I get. I want to do swim club and take other classes so that could take more time.

Q: What clubs or sports do you want to get involved in?
A:  Well I talked to [my neighbor] and she told me about clubs where you can do community service in Lake Zurich, so I want to do that, and I’m going to do swimming. I was thinking about doing softball, because I played for a couple years in the past, but I’m not really sure yet.
