The kingdom awaits you
LZHS performs Frozen as spring musical
Leave reality behind and “Let it Go” into the world of Frozen. The show will be performed in the LZHS PAC on April 26th at 7pm, April 27th at 7pm, April 28th at 7pm, April 29th at 2pm and 7pm, and April 30th 2pm. The Frozen musical showcases a story about the powerful love between sisters and learning to be true to oneself.
The newly crowned queen of Arendelle—Elsa, played by Katie McCormick, senior, and Nicole Rogus, senior—runs away to the mountains after she accidentally puts her kingdom in an eternal winter with her magical ice powers. Her younger sister—Anna, played by Nevaeh Bos, senior, and Natalie Czarnik, senior—ventures into the mountains to find her sister in hopes of bringing her home and saving their kingdom. Anna meets Kristoff and his reindeer, Sven, played by Matthew Winiarz, senior, who helps Anna find Elsa and bring her back to the kingdom.
Along with its array of messages, such as teaching kids about never giving up on loved ones to embracing one’s unique qualities, Winiarz says that the Frozen production is as significant.
“[Frozen] may just be the biggest show we’ve ever done with some of our biggest ever sets and coolest effects,” Winiarz said. “The costumes are also different from others, especially mine. I’ve never acted on stilts in a full body reindeer costume before, which is its own unique challenge.”
According to Winiarz, the unique challenge is unique to LZHS, because this year, LZHS has the honor of being the very first school in Illinois to perform the Frozen musical in a non-Broadway setting.
“It’s an amazing, iconic show suitable for all ages. The songs and moments you get to experience in person are so unbelievably amazing, it’s surreal. You may never get another opportunity like this,” Winiarz said.
When Frozen had come out in 2014, people around the world fell in love with the music and songs. According to Bos, being able to perform and sing the beloved songs is truly a amazing privilege.
“I’m really glad that we get to perform the musical. It’s been such a fun experience during rehearsals,” Bos said. “I’m especially excited to see all the little kids in the audience dressed up as Anna and Elsa during the show nights. It’s going to be so cute!”
Although the movie came out several years ago, Frozen has made a huge impact on people while inspiring them with the many important messages that the story tells.
“Frozen just holds such a special place in my heart. I remember watching it in elementary school for the first time and falling in love with it and I’m so honored that my last show at the high school will be Frozen,” Bos said.
