Tri-M celebrates Music in our Schools month

And they’re back with more! Tri-M bounces back from pandemic restrictions with new activities for Music in Our Schools March and now looks towards the future with new ideas.

Even through the pandemic, e-learning, and safety restrictions, Tri-M remained focused on their goal of helping others. Now, with in-person learning back and previous restrictions lessening, Tri-M is looking to continue their traditional activities for Music in our Schools month.

Among these traditions is assisting at the elementary and middle school musicals through ushering. Here, they would “prepare programs for the viewers of the concerts, and then we stand outside the concert doors and help guide people to their seats and find everywhere they need to be” William Chialdikas, Senior and Tri-M member, said.

In addition to this, the club also created online trivia about music to celebrate the month. The trivia can be played by LZHS students and are announced during the morning announcements  and allows members to earn volunteer hours while still staying safe during the pandemic.

Further back during the pandemic, Tri-M was also able to bring a little joy to local retirement centers by playing music in virtual concerts for the retirees, an event that required a lot of planning by Tri-M’s club sponsor Sheri Conover, and Tri-M’s co-presidents, according to Prakash. Nevertheless, the effort was worth it to them, she said.

“They really appreciated it because being isolated in their homes, they didn’t have a way to see live performances,” Prakash said. “So the fact that we were all able to send compositions on Zoom, and then they were able to listen to it was really meaningful to them.”

With the pandemic now in the past for most, Tri-M now looks towards the future, according to Dominic Mazzuca, Tri-M co-president and senior.“I think with COVID kind of on the decline, there’s definitely a lot of new opportunities and ideas that I’m sure future years and future chapters are going to be successful with.”
